Study: The most cockroach-infested city in the U.S. is in Texas. Home of LetMyPeopleVote. San Antonio is #2.

Here are the most roach-infested cities, per the study:

Houston, TX home of DU member Let My People Vote
San Antonio, TX home of LeftinTX
Tampa, FL
Phoenix, AZ
Las Vegas, NV
Miami, FL
Atlanta, GA
Birmingham, AL
Dallas, TX
Oklahoma City, OK

Everything is bigger in Texas — and that includes the bugs. The most common roaches in South Texas are the American cockroach, a big, brown, flying pest, and the German cockroach, a smaller critter that often dwells in kitchens, pantries and sinks.

So, you’re not losing your mind if you think you keep having to take off your chanclas to kill roaches all the time. San Antonio is crawling with them. And now there’s proof. I’ll do my part to try to get as many out of the mean streets of the Alamo City as I can. But if they fly, you’ve lost me.

While we watch horrific videos of Gaza, please think of DU members Let My People Vote and LeftinTexas. Thank you. Your prayers mean everything.

Although we read horrific stories out of the state of Florida every day. We've got your beat. Prayer for us.

Houston!
("...off the Wayside Drive..." )

I have first hand experience!

My first run in with these things was way back in the 1970s at the Houston produce market. Seriously, folks, WASH YOUR VEGGIES! I saw them on the dock right after the dock mgr showed me a box of three week old kittens he just found and rounded up. I recall thinking that those roaches could have individually carted off one of those kittens without issue.

After the 100lbs bags of spuds were unloaded and the lumpers stole my loadlocks, my husband and I were watching teevee, chilling in our room which had a large dresser with a large mirror upon which some of our clothes were piled. Something caught my attention out of the corner of my eye, I looked, and to my horror there was this dinosaur sized roach traversing the terrain of our clothes silhouetted in the mirror.

Upon pointing this out to my husband, he jumped up and threw it outside having captured it in his hat. As I was trying to stop cringing my spouse, slamming the door shut, turns to me and in his best Texan assumed drawl barks, "Thats how come we got them pointy toed boots, we call 'em cockroach killers! You get 'em in a corner and... Damn, that one woulda took a few stabs." To which I nearly died laughing.

I was glad to get the hell out of there and tried to avoid going that far south in Texas again. EEeeewwww!

the fact that cockroaches can fly until an American Cockroach flew across my living room in Phoenix. Freaked me out!

They were my cat's absolute favorite toy. Once one got into my dryer (it was on the lint filter when I pulled it out) too deep for me to get at. I put my cat on the door of the dryer and she dove in the minute she spotted it and jumped out triumphantly with it in her mouth to go play with it some more somewhere else in the house (I nixed that pretty quickly).

It had been raining and the road medians had hip high weeds. Hubby cut them back with a sickle, and I was putting up campaign signs. After cutting the weeds, hubby went home. It was the night before the runoff. I thought I had stepped in stickers. I saw fire ants. They were up to my knee. I ran to my car. Took my shoes off and drove home barefoot. I couldn't wear shoes for a month. It was just awful.

We have a few alligators in the San Antonio area. There's a small natural lake here at the confluence of the Medina and San Antonio Rivers. They live there and also in some man made lakes. They rarely venture north on the Medina or SA River though. They like the lake.

We also have alot of rats around here....
