AOC vows to flip Texas with the help of newly elected Rep. Greg Casar

As chaos and confusion on the House floor unfolded this week following a series of votes that failed to deliver a House speaker, Democratic Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez took to Instagram with Democrat Rep.-elect Greg Casar of Austin to vent their woes—and vow to turn Texas blue.

"We're gonna flip that state," Ocasio-Cortez said in an 11-minute-long selfie clip posted on the platform late Wednesday. "I know some of y'all roll your eyes, but then every year we start making little steps, right? We're going to flip that state, aren't we?"

"It's trending the right direction," added Casar, who Ocasio-Cortez endorsed during his congressional run last year. "We're going to flip the state of Texas and it's going to be a progressive coalition, working class, white, Black, brown, Latino—all of it," Ocasio-Cortez continued. "We're going to flip the state of Texas and we're going to keep working at it until we get it done and Greg is going to help lead it."

Earlier this week, the two Democrats were both set to be sworn into Congress—Casar for the first time and Ocasio-Cortez for a third—a process that's been stalled as the U.S. House of Representatives failed to elect a new speaker of the House on the first ballot for the first time in 100 years. After six House votes, Republican party leader Kevin McCarthy of California continued to come up short of the 218 Republican votes needed to win the speakership. The vote will be held over and over again until someone wins the majority.

Native Texan here and at 75, I am old enough to remember when Texas was blue, and hope to last long enough to see it blue once again. Thanks for your post.
