10,000 mail ballots rejected in large Texas counties as new ID requirement is phased in

The GOP decided to suppress the vote and their efforts worked

More than 10,000 ballots were rejected in the state's largest counties in Tuesday's midterm election, making for a rejection rate of about 4 percent, according to preliminary data counties reported to the secretary of state's office.

That's a vast improvement from the March primary that immediately followed the passage of a Republican-backed election overhaul bill that added a new ID requirement for voting by mail that continues to confuse voters. More than 24,000, or 12 percent, of primary mail ballots were thrown out across the state.

Still, the 4 percent mail-ballot rejection rate is more than double the less than 2 percent tossed in Texas in the last midterm election in 2018.

"There is definitely room to lower rejection rates even more, but the trends we’ve seen since the primary show major improvements across the state, and show the rejection rates are moving in the right direction," secretary of state's office spokesman Sam Taylor said. "This was the 4th statewide election with the new ID requirements for mail-in ballots in place, so voters were more familiar with the process generally."

I am eligible to use vote by mail this cycle but voted in person during early voting. i do not trust this system even though I have a good friend on the ballot board and she told me our county had a lower rejection rate.

I am a life long resident of Texas and at 75 am old enough to remember when the state used to be blue (think Lyndon Johnson, Ann Richards, Barbara Jordan, and Henry B Gonzalez) and it is heartbreaking to see where we are now. I simply cannot comprehend what voters are thinking.

In March, we had a rejection of 2,000 ballots
In May, we had a rejection of 100

We had 8,765 mail ballots that were not returned? WTF???
How does someone go through the process of obtaining a mail ballot and then they don't return it?? I talked with someone who received their mail ballot on Thursday, Nov 3. (She hurried and sent her ballot in. But she has a PhD) She had requested her ballot in Sept. Maybe that was the reason. They received their ballots too late??

But we are not giving up. The stench of State leadership permeates our entire state and since most people live in the urban areas they are unfairly victims of these morons.

At some point maybe Texas and the entire South will stop fighting the civil war and join the nation in trying to make our nation a "more perfect union".

Peace not crazy is what we want!! ☮
