Police fatally shoot Texas fugitive after family of 5 killed

A convicted murderer on the run since escaping a prison bus after stabbing its driver last month was shot dead by law enforcement late Thursday after he killed a family of five and stole their truck from a rural weekend cabin, a Texas prison system spokesman said.

Gonzalo Lopez, 46, was killed about 10:30 p.m. Thursday in Jourdanton, Texas, about 35 miles (55 kilometers) south of San Antonio, said Jason Clark, spokesman for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

“Law enforcement in Atascosa County located the stolen vehicle, disabled it with spike strips, and gunfire ensued,” Clark said in a statement. No officers were injured, he said.

Lopez was killed about 220 miles (354 kilometers) southeast of Centerville, Texas, where Clark earlier said Lopez had killed a Houston family of five at their cabin and stole their pickup truck.

3. No Mention Of How They Were Killed

If they were shot, then how did he acquire the gun? I guess this being America, is may not have been too difficult.

ETA: Never mind, I found an article that says there was a shootout with police. So obviously another 5 deaths at the alter of the almighty gun.

4. He shot the family with guns they kept in their home for protection and hunting.

They loved guns and paid the ultimate price for it.

This won't change any minds of course.
