The State Bar of Texas sued state Attorney General Ken Paxton's top lieutenant Friday, arguing that First Assistant Brent Webster should be reprimanded for making dishonest claims in a 2020 petition that asked the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Joe Biden's election victories in four swing states.

Paxton's name appears on the same petition as the counsel of record, and Paxton said Friday that he expects to be named in a similar lawsuit.

Paxton accused the State Bar, which handles disciplinary matters for Texas lawyers, of engaging in a witch hunt as "a liberal activist group masquerading as a neutral professional organization."

He also defended his complaint to the U.S. Supreme Court, calling it a legitimate challenge to an "unconstitutional 2020 presidential election."
