Texas' largest teacher prep program faces probation after state finds continued problems

The state’s largest teacher preparation program faces probation after Texas Education Agency officials noted that problems with the company continue.

An agreement between Texas Teachers of Tomorrow and the agency was released in advance of Friday’s meeting of the oversight board that has authority over the state’s educators.

TEA officials are recommending that the accreditation status for Texas Teachers of Tomorrow be lowered for the 2021-22 school year to “accredited - probation.” State officials want the company to provide monthly updates on its progress addressing a litany of issues the TEA flagged.

A state audit found substantial issues with the operations of Texas Teachers of Tomorrow in 2021, including problems with misleading marketing, not sufficiently matching candidates with mentors and a mostly online curriculum that couldn’t be proven to be based on research.
