Smithville Municipal Election to be Contested August 6

The Smithville Municipal Election will be contested August 6 with candidates vying for mayor and aldermen.

The candidates for mayor are Beth Chandler and Jeff Cawthorn. Incumbent mayor Josh Miller will not be seeking re-election.

Two aldermen seats will be filled August 6 and the candidates are Don Crook, who is seeking re-election, along with Meshia Johnson and Todd Cantrell. Chandler, an incumbent aldermen, is giving up her seat to run for mayor. The terms are for four years.

As of Monday afternoon, March 9 no one else had obtained a petition from the election commission to seek the office of Smithville Mayor and Alderman and 12 noon Tuesday, March 10 is the qualifying deadline.
