Where West Tennessee Meets Middle Tennessee

All Tennesseans are familiar with the "three states of Tennessee," even if it isn't officially recognized. As a west Tennessee person, I find that I don't get over to east Tennessee very much. I just thought I would share a photograph I took early Easter morning at the Duck River Overlook on the Tennessee River, just north of I-40, from the "West" Tennessee side of the river, looking over into "Middle" Tennessee.

1. Love this! I've lived just lived in Nashville for decades.

There are views in this state that are absolutely gorgeous.

I loved the "green hills" there. Occasionally I get back to Nashville, but rarely east of there.

Isn't the whole East/Middle/West thing why we have the three stars on the state flag? I'm from Middle TN.

So I guess it is officially recognized, but they stopped the advertising and PR campaigns that were based on the three states of Tennessee, thinking it sounded divisive or something.

The flat delta in the west is just so different from the mountains in the east, and they are both different from the middle. And the accents? Totally different!

Once you live here, you kind of get it! It isn't *just* the topography, it is, well, ............everything.

Thanks for sharing. I am bookmarking your blog to enjoy more later. I loved the squirrel and the bluebird photos---I live in middle TN too, and just found a bluebird nest in a dead tree that I left standing in my backyard. I left it there for the woodpeckers, and was delighted to find that a bluebird had taken up residence there.

And hollow posts, etc. I am actually neutral about most birds but I LOVE BLUEBIRDS! If you have one nesting in a dead tree you probably get some pretty good views. Maybe you can get some photos.

9. And TN absorbed the state of Franklin

There used to be a state called Franklin that was the NE part of TN. I think they broke off NC at the same time NC gave up the land that became TN.

I grew up in Knoxville and now live-in Nashville. For some reason I never go west. I drove through Memphis in 1980 on my way to California and that has been my whole experience.

Not only do we have three states, we have accents to go along with them.

It's the difference between a more traditional southern accent and hillbilly twang. I love Dolly Parton's accent.

Not sure which of the three states we should meet in!

The Duck River begins a few miles from me and is a small creek.These falls are part of the Duck where we used to swim.

You are quite the photographer!
I think one would be hard pressed to find a more beautiful & diverse state than TN. The only thing that would make it better is if we had a beach......an ocean-side beach.

Oh, and if it were a DEM state, instead of so red!!

I do love the beach! I guess I need to be happy we have Eva Beach on the Tennessee River. They import some sand every year and people swim in the summer there. It is about 1/6 of an acre I would guess.
