Anyone else get to see the aurora borealis last night?

posted a photo on Facebook this morning that looks very much like your picture.
I can't ever remember the northern lights being seen this far south before. I'm glad you got to see it, and thanks for sharing your photo.

I kicked up the brightness of the photo I took Friday night, just to show detail.
The "original" is how it looked to the eyeball.
Very dim, but looking a tad brighter than the usual night sky.
Central CA, so I wasn't expecting any light show at all.

14. Friends saw it here in San Diego's East County!

On Mt. Laguna and nearby, where it's dark.

It was NOT forecast to get this far south in Califiornia -- but at least a dozen friends posted pics on FB, so it's real.

16. Sometime about 1947-1948 I saw them,

here in northeastern South Carolina. I was a very little girl about four or five when my grandfather took me out to the back yard and showed me and explained this most brilliant light show in the distance, across the fields and forests. It was mostly in reds, and didn't reach so high into the sky as your photo. But I remember watching it so full of first fear, then of awe.

Granddaddy sat beside me on the ground and told me about seeing them from the ship he was on either going to or coming home from France and WWI. And how much more brilliant and clear they were on out on the ocean.

I have read recently that the reds are more visible than the other colors the further away from them you get. Thus all the reds we get in the south, when we are fortunate enough to see them.

Hazy here last night. I'll try again tonight.
