Related: About this forumThere was a shooting just across from my grandsons' school yesterday
This happened in Morristown, TN, across from Morristown-Hamblen West High School. Two students were involved. I don't know the whole story yet, but the boy who was shot played football with one of my other grandsons, which would have made him a freshman at that time, since he was 17 yesterday, and my daughter said he'd been at their house although he and my grandson weren't exactly besties or anything. Apparently the two boys had a fight earlier in the day, whether a war of words or otherwise I don't know, and one went home and got a gun, came back right after school, and shot the other. My grandsons were on their bus, which had just finished loading, and they said they saw cop cars "just flying in" from all directions and the buses all just peeled out of there. I'll know more later when they get home today. The younger one is taking a Criminal Justice class and the Assistant Principal, who was out front when this all went down, is the teacher.
I'm a bit shook up since this has never happened in that town before.

(24,145 posts)That a kid can think its a-okay to settle an argument with a gun. And that he could just go home and pick one up.
Hang in there, Jilly.

(10,889 posts)As my daughter said last night, dumb kid just ruined his whole life and will probably sit in jail for a few years on felony charges, either attempted murder or aggravated assault. Doubt he'll get charged as a juvenile either since he's 17.

(28,246 posts)That's enough to seriously worry you and your whole family!
Glad your grandson (or grandsons) are okay.
(My 1st cousin was on the Morristown police force until a few yrs ago. His retirement was due to back injuries from breaking up fights.)
You know, I grew up in Morristown (a 100yrs ago ) but I don't recall any serious fights, especially not enough to necessitate any police intervention.
Morristown seems to have turned in to a really rough town. But, perhaps that just reflects the whole country?
(The town still has one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten in, even Harrison Ford agrees! Bet you've eaten at the Little Dutch too.)
