“We sent a communication to our community about two weeks ago about concerns with escalating of both student behaviors, but also adult behaviors … the way that some adults are talking to our faculty, staff and administrators. Republicans are now raising a generation of future abusers who think they have every right to attack anyone who disagrees with them. Unfortunately, many of them ill also have guns. What a nasty society we have become thanks to the Republican Party.

(4,702 posts)Teachers and administrators usually know who the more challenging parents are and we have each others' backs. Several times I've requested that an administrator sit in on parent-teacher conferences if I thought it might help ease tensions, and also it's good to have a witness in the room. I teach in a rural area and our elementary school now has a resource officer on campus, and I have seen him sitting in the principal's office with a parent. What's strange is that 20 years ago I would never have thought we'd ever have the need for a resource officer on our campus, but times have changed.
