(5,270 posts)I have a special needs sister. She used to live with me, but after a tragic fall while out in the yard she now lives in an urban setting in New Mexico with another sister.
She recovered, but it took hospitalization, IVs for days because of Rhabdomyolysis. I was not home when it happened, and she had crawled up a steep hill after falling. The cold ground and muscle strain provoked the system shut down. Fortunantely I arrived that evening (I ususally travel for days at a time) and called an ambulance. She could not walk for a month and after a week of intense care in the hospital she went to assisted living for a month, and came out in a wheelchair. It took another couple of months before she could walk on her own.

(2,867 posts)have my greatest respect. Because you did something, (albeit maybe through necessity) that I can not even imagine, having to admit, and give up the love of life, to someone else.
My pastor has asked me, what about Tess if you and Mrs K die first? my standard response is, somewhat snarky,, "I have prayed and God and I have an understanding, Mrs K and I will be 95 yo, and tess will be 60, and we will just do a Thelma and Louise and all come and see you at same time, And God told me ,,that's ok" but honestly, Mrs K and I have a 450 page life plan attached to our will with 10 family names who will take Tess if we go first.. Hardest 6 months of our life building that life plan. Even to what kind of potato chips she likes.
So back to my point,so much respect to you, making your decision,I am not sure I am man enough to do that..
Simply, with Respect

(5,270 posts)Was trying to figure out what happened. As you know, communication is a series of guesswork, assuming and presuming. My sister can hardly speak, it deteriorated from the use of different medications over the years. She is almost 70.
Its tough. The unknown, and trying to think through the situation. I try to achieve the best out of what I can do. But she is in New Mexico which has a more accessible support system than what I could find here in TN.
She was on an emergency wait list here in Knox Co. for over a year and a half. No one ever contacted me.
So, after her accident and treatment I wheeled her to the airport and flights to New Mexico. She is doing better and loves life on concrete rather than the hills and rustic style of my setting. Her social life is great at a community center (except not now...everything there is shuttered, more social isolation than what TN is doing).
Take care, Koz. Best wishes for you and the family.

(2,867 posts)get it,,is not just a phrase to make while I know texts tend to be lazy You ACTUALLY GET IT,, and for some weird reason,Im proud of you.
as far as what TN is doing,,loaded question..Tn as a whole does bare minimum,, but I worked in hcp field,, and I do know state people within this field and I fight,,every chance I get. I worked in field because it was my personal life, not political.. State people have a problem with that.. but her is what I know,,I pulled my daughter out of Dawn of Hope 6 weeks ago, because I was upper mgmt there and I truly KNOW their system.. they fought me,,I stood easily,,its my family. and then they closed down. so I guess in a way,,I won. BUt,,,big BUT, challenged individuals don't all have me to fight and protect.
You had other family to take over,,, don't fret yourself,, you did perfect.. My Tess has no other family to take her,,so I fight. For what I KNOW,,and thank you for just taking care of your family,, it will work out,my friend..
Point is ,,I make my hard decisions,, you make your's. what I read,,,you made perfect decision
