Rep. Rick Quinn (R) corruption case relies on tying South Carolina lawmaker to father's business
COLUMBIA South Carolina Rep. Rick Quinns indictment is expected to become a centerpiece in the Statehouse corruption probe, and making the misconduct case stick could depend on prosecutors proving the Lexington lawmakers political direct-mail business is part of his fathers political consulting empire.
Among the accusations in indictments against Quinn is failing to report $4.5 million from some of South Carolinas largest corporations and state agencies that hired his fathers firm, Richard Quinn & Associates, since 2010.
He also is accused of lobbying other lawmakers on behalf of his father's clients.
Rick Quinn has denied the allegations and repeated Friday that his Columbia company, Mail Marketing Strategies, and his fathers firm are separate businesses. He said Mail Marketing Strategies has never done work for a company that lobbies the Legislature or a state agency.
