How can you find out if someone has received farm subsidies?
Specifically Mark "whirl-wind" Sanford.

(63,227 posts)who incidently is not listed in Iowa, but Virginia. It has been a while so I will have to figure it out.
start here: http://farm.ewg.org/
This is the farm subsidy database (this is the environmental working group db.)
Then pick a state - this brings you to a secondary selection screen
- the very last entry ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SCREEN allows for search by recipient - click on this
This will get you where you want - enter the name of the owner or business you want and hit the search button
I put in Charles Grassley of Virginia (senator Grassley) and find he has taken in @ $350,000 in subsidies.
(his son has taken in a million.
The db is @ a year or 2 in arears because it simply takes some time to compile data.
I am curious what you find
Funny thing, I was on that site, for NC.
They have nothing on Mark.
But through a google search he is not the only owner. According to the State: and he shares an interest in the plantation and other Beaufort County land with family members. So it can be under any name.
a little more research....

(136 posts)If you search by state, you can actually type in a specific business you are looking for and it will tell you if they have received any government incentives. Its a huge pain if you don't know what your looking for though...
