2. i havent gone in months and months and I dont plan to...Hubby is even growing his ponytail..

...again. I used to have my hair foiled and cut 3 x a year.. that was a 5-6 hour ordeal. Im NOT doing that again anytime soon. SO...I bleached out the rest of the foil and dyed my hair pink. Its easy to take care of and no gray hair I plan on letting it grow long and wear it in a long pink braid.

Now I coordinate my masks with my hair...and I may need to get a pair of pink Birks...

I haven't had one in decades. I thought it was going to be hard to do, but my touch of dyslexia came in handy for that.

3. I guess the question is how bad do you really need a haircut?

If you haven’t cut it since March or even earlier, I could see it feeling really urgent. But at the end of the day is your health more important?

I personally am very cautious and only cut my hair in August when I could do it outside by a hairdresser who was working outside with me and her with masks on and she had no gloves on after sanitizing hands. She also was testing weekly. Now with the surge coming I figure I am not cutting my hair till at least the Spring. She provides me with color and I touch up and color the gray myself. It actually doesn’t look too bad. Even my partner is growing his hair long and I help trim it.

I won’t take the chance personally. Hairdressers/ stylists come in contact with more people than most (and in close contact) and being indoors.....no thank you.

If you can wait Raccoon I would...your Health and well being is most important. Don’t put it to chance. Not now.

4. I finally went to my hairdresser last week.

She is observing the rules (they are supposed to always keep masks on) to a tee. I was impressed. Every other chair was not in use and she sanitizes them all between visits. My coat and purse went on one sanitized chair, I went on another. I had to wait for her to let me in, and then wash my hands upon arrival. Every towel and robe was one-use only and each of the two hairdressers only has one client at a time. (The other person works part time and I never saw any other person besides my hairdresser). She also told me that she won't go to the nail salon or alterations business in the same building (different entrances) because the people don't wear masks when no customers are there, even though in this case it's the law. She also has some kind of sanitizing light she takes out into the shared hallway every hour or so (I have no idea what this does or how effective it is). Neither one of us ever took off our masks.

I felt safe but then again, our laws say she has to have the mask on and she couldn't have been more observant. Maybe you can find someone as careful as she was?

Edited to say I forgot to mention she took my temperature and asked me to confirm I hadn't had any of a long list of symptoms.

5. No. I haven't felt safe enough to have my hair done since this whole mess started.

I don't want to take a chance of undoing all my prevention efforts of the last several months for a haircut.

I'm high risk and we're experiencing a rise in cases. It might be safer in your area.

6. I have gotten a couple of haircuts

At great clips since the start of the pandemic. I encountered no problem. The staff was masked and taking great precautions. I did give the stylist a $10.00 tip each time as it seemed the right thing to do.

8. Salons are usually so small that just a couple of hairdressers and 2-3 clients at same time

becomes very problematic. They usually have no means for cross-ventilation outside their HVAC unit which is a big damned question for filter contamination if they allow workers to congregate without masks in between clients. Risk diminished by all wearing masks at the time of the haircut, but hardly optimal.

SO, no. I think this is a bad idea. I've not had my hair cut in six months since January. I'd sure like to and we have a statewide mandatory mask mandate. But, as a HCW, if I do, it will be early in the morning after I've inquired how many other clients will be there and I will undoubtedly use one of my prized supply of N95 to do so. I owe it to my patients to do so.

You might inquire if they would allow you to come in with wet, clean hair (which they can rewet) and do so very quickly without drying to limit exposure. Even better if they would agree to do so sitting OUTSIDE.

9. Every 6 weeks since June.

My stylist wears a mask, I get my temp taken, and will have to wait outside. Come Winter, that will be a problem.

I haven’t had my hair cut since February. I have pretty long and very straight hair. It’s driving me nuts. I don’t think my hair has been this long in thirty years. I keep it up in a clip or in a pony tail most of the time, but it’s getting too long and won’t stay put.

14. I'm in Florida and I recently got my hair cut for the 1st time.

I was extremely anxious even though all my friends, who are EXTREMELY cautious, had done it. As you know, Florida has lifted all restrictions. That said there isn't a salon in our town that is stupid enough to have dispensed with masks. As my hairdresser said when I asked her if they were still following the original protocol, "Of course. Do you think we're that stupid; that we want to get sick?"

Ask around and make sure you are comfortable with the measures they are taking.

For me, my salon has a souped up ventilation system, my hairdresser uses the Shahag method (dry cuts), they won't do shampoos, you sit in the car until it's your time for the chair, and everyone is required to wear masks. I was in and out in 15 minutes. Brought nothing with me other than my car keys and exact cash to cover cost plus tip. She also made an appointment time for when they are the slowest (which happened to be 4:15 pm). There was only 1 other customer in the salon. It was scary, but I had to do it. My hair grows super fast (1 inch a month) and it was about 6 inches past my shoulders. The weight of it was giving me headaches, and it also hurt to put it up.

A friend of mine in the next county over uses a stylist who is on her own and only allows one customer in at a time and totally sanitizes between clients.

My neighbor went to a big salon here and everyone wore masks (this was back in May I believe). She got a call from the salon a couple of days after her visit. 2 of the stylists had tested positive. As it turned out over 100 people had been in the salon at the time (over the course of 2 days) and were potentially exposed. Not a single one of them got the virus, including the co-workers because they all wore masks. Turns out the 2 girls were likely infected at a bar.

Call ahead, be comfortable with the protocols, go in with damp hair, tell them you want a 15 minute cut & no blow dry, drop the cash on the desk on your way out the door and run like hell.

15. I went a few weeks ago

The hairdresser was touted to be extra safe.

I got there and she was sitting in a chair with no mask on and hacking away.

She cut only 1" off of my very long hair and I left.

I was only there for about 5 minutes.

It turned out she was an anti-masker! Yikes!

She hit me up for $40, I paid and I left; NO TIP!

I won't be going back, that is for sure.

The hacking was a smoker's cough as I'd be plenty sick by now.

By the time I realized the situation I was in, it was too late. The trap had been set and I walked right into it believing the stories I had heard about this place via nextdoor.com.

I got the hell out of there real fast believe me!

As for my very long hair, I guess I'll just have to keep letting it grow. It hadn't been cut in a year already.

I have thin straight hair and if I try to do it myself I know I'll mess it up.

20. I know! Calling ahead and searching reviews doesn't work. You have to either personally know or vet

the person or place or get a referral from someone you trust. It seems every time I call ahead with my 101 Covid questions I'm sold a bill of goods. My worst experience was getting my car serviced. They told me about 5 different lies over the phone.

My two girls - one is in NY and the other in Boston - are experiencing a whole nuther world - everyone wears masks and everyone is considerate of others. If they had not been born and raised in Florida, I doubt they'd believe my experiences here.
