Democratic vice presidential candidate Kaine to visit Newport

NEWPORT — For the second time in a month, Democratic vice presidential candidate Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia will be visiting Newport to raise campaign funds.

Kaine was in Newport on July 22 for a Democratic fundraiser — just hours before he was chosen by Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton to be her running mate.

“Newport is his lucky city,” said Joseph R. Paolino Jr., who helped arrange Kaine’s visit to Newport.

The candidate will attend a cocktail reception on Saturday from 4-6 p.m. at Seafair, 254 Ocean Ave., the home of Rick Bready and Betty Easton. Bready is the former chairman of Nortek Inc., a global business products company headquartered in Providence. Attendees can be a “friend” of the Clinton campaign with a donation of $1,000 for the event. Those who donate $2,700 are dubbed a “champion,” and that includes preferred seating at the event. A donation of $5,000 would allow recognition as a “co-host,” and that would allow the donor to attend a reception with Kaine.
