RI-LG: Former Newport Mayor Xay Khamsyvoravong (D) enters lieutenant governor race
(WJAR) — Former Newport Mayor Xay Khamsyvoravong has announced he is running for lieutenant governor of Rhode Island.
The campaign made the announcement on Monday.
“I’m running for Lieutenant Governor because I believe in the promise of Rhode Island, because I’ve lived it. Today, that promise is slipping away,” he said in a statement.
Khamsyvoravong, a Democrat, says he was born and raised in the Ocean State as the son of a refugee and a pediatrician.
