Raimondo: 'This requires action. There is a problem.'

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Governor Raimondo on Wednesday questioned the value in having a study commission look at sexual harassment in the workplace after two lawmakers in two days went public with allegations of sexual harassment at the Rhode Island State House.

“I don’t really know if this requires more study. This requires action. There is a problem. You have two legislators coming forth in 24 hours. I think we know something’s here,” Raimondo told The Providence Journal in a one-on-one interview on Wednesday.

“I don’t think we need to study this so much as we need to take action,″ Raimondo said. “It needs to change. The public deserves better. The public needs to have have confidence in what happens up here.”

Raimondo was responding to a statement that Rep. Teresa Tanzi, D-South Kingstown, made to The Journal on Monday: “As a state representative ... I have been told sexual favors would allow my bills to go further.”
