Raimondo questions if Trump executive orders 'have any actual weight'

PROVIDENCE - Gov. Gina Raimondo said Friday that Rhode Island officials have had no contact with President Donald Trump's administration since last week's inauguration, including communications about immigration enforcement.

Asked in a morning meeting with reporters whether Rhode Island would cooperate with the federal government on immigration, including sharing information, Raimondo said she wouldn't speculate until receiving a specific request.

"It's totally unclear to me whether these executive orders are meant to be symbolic or if they have any actual weight," Raimondo said. "As far as I know, the president can't, with the stroke of the pen, withhold federal money. that is a Congressional prerogative."

"We'll see how much of it is bluster, how much of it is reality," she added.
