Governor signs bill to help brewers

PAWTUCKET – Three existing breweries in Pawtucket and several more planned in the city will benefit from a bill signed into law by Gov. Gina Raimondo last Friday.

Dorian Rave and his Ravenous Brewing Company in Woonsocket hosted the ceremonial signing of legislation that allows breweries and distilleries to sell limited amounts of their products to visitors for sampling and off-site consumption.

Woonsocket Rep. Michael Morin and Sen. V. Susan Sosnowski of South Kingstown and New Shoreham said they introduced the bill to assist the state’s breweries and distilleries, and to encourage an increasingly popular segment of the tourism industry.

“I think this is a great bill for small business,” said Morin, noting that he proposed the legislation after talks with Rave. “I heard the hurdles brewers had to face in Rhode Island. It’s going to expand the industry.”
