Out-of-state students at a Pennsylvania college who wanted to register to vote in the Commonwealth were turned away by their local elections office on Friday.
Students at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster had completed voter registration forms and given them to an organizational representative of the nonpartisan F&M Votes to deliver to the Lancaster County Elections Office.
The representative was told by Lisa Dart, deputy chief clerk/registrar for Lancaster County, that the registrations would not be accepted. Dart, a former Carbon County elections director, told the representative, who co-chairs the F&M Votes campaign on the colleges campus, that the registrations for those students previously registered would not be accepted until those students canceled their registration in their home state.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of State website, if you moved from outside of PA to attend college in PA, you may register to vote in Pennsylvania if you meet the requirements listed above.

(11,134 posts)I never cancelled my previous registration when I moved between States. I eventually informed the one county when they summoned me to report for jury duty that I had moved away from years ago.
Voting more than once in an election, or in a district you do not currently reside in, is a crime.

(12,199 posts)Was up in Lancaster on Thursday. We were heading up to the Dutch Apple Dinner Theater. Driving around and did not see a single Democratic or Harris/Walz yard sign or bumper sticker. We saw what seemed like 50 bajillion republican and Trump signs, sticker, and flags. I saw one Harris/Walz billboard (on 273) and one interesting billboard with no attribution. I figured it was probably republican funded. It was a plain blue board with white writing that said something like Pray for our country and Gods guidance. Contact xxxxxx to register to vote. and then had a picture of an Amish straw hat.
