Luzerne County to discontinue use of ballot drop boxes citing security concerns

Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne Co. — Wednesday, Luzerne County manager Romilda Crocamo made the official decision to no longer use mail drop boxes for voters to submit their ballots.

Crocamo says several factors pushed her to make the decision specifically financial and security issues.

“Just recently Monday evening we received a notice from the department of state about envelopes that are being sent to election officials with a white substance in them,” Crocamo said.

With the current insurance policy on the drop boxes being 10,000 dollars, Crocamo says any tampering would put the county at severe financial risk.
