New Pennsylvania highway welcome signs and license plates were unveiled Tuesday by Gov. Josh Shapiro, according to a release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
The new design, which reads Let Freedom Ring and features an illustration of the Liberty Bell, signifies Pennsylvanias position as the birthplace of American democracy and comes as the state prepares to celebrate the nations 250th anniversary in 2026. The last significant plate-design change was in 2003.
Eight welcome signs have already been put up at highway entry points into the state in Adams, Bucks, Erie, Fulton, Monroe, Potter, Susquehanna and Tioga counties, according to the release. Twenty-nine more signs are yet to be added across the state in coming months.
Pennsylvania residents can now register to receive an email update about when the new license plates are ready to order in spring 2025. When the plates become available, an email will be sent detailing the process that vehicle owners can follow to request one from PennDOT.

Philadelphia will be bee-yoo-tee-ful in time for the 250th Anniversary in 2026. Expect large crowds to visit the City of Brotherly Love.
I can remember the Bicentennial Anniversary in 1976, when fireworks, tall ships, and large crowds were all over the harbors in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC and other cities. It's a modern history lesson for your kids and grandkids.
I wonder how England feels about it every time we celebrate our "independence" ... from THEM!?

were dismissive about the loss of The Colonies, as something only old fuddy-duddies lamented.

PA plates have been yellow since the dawn of time. Our Governor loves to innovate! 🤗

Mine has always been white with blue numbers, even back when they were stamped out of metal.
