SPOTLIGHT RACE: John Inglis for PA-HD38

The son of a Navy Veteran father, and a loving mother, John Inglis is a lifetime resident of the Borough of West Mifflin. He graduated from West Mifflin Area High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education at Duquesne University and a Master’s degree in School Counseling from Westminster College. For many years, John taught Civics classes and Psychology classes to high school students before recently transitioning to the school counselor position at West Mifflin Area High School. His years in the classroom have shown him that education is the foundation on which all other opportunities are built. John is dedicated to turning our public school system into a world-class institution.

In addition to his work with the students, John is a card-carrying member of the American Federation of Teachers. John has seen close-up just how important union advocacy is, not only in his own life, but for our whole community. In Harrisburg, John will protect and expand the union way of life.

Outside of the classroom, John has twice been elected as a member of the West Mifflin Borough Council. In that role, he has worked to stimulate economic development, expand free recreation programs and events, maintain high-quality public services, and keep taxes low. John is most proud of his advocacy for our first responders. The police, fire departments, and EMS services that keep our community safe are indispensable. His work on Council has also included a position on the South Hill Area Council of Government (SHACOG) where John developed relationships with numerous officials from other local governments. Before his time in government, John mentored many of our local youth through 17 years with the human resources team at Kennywood - providing them with a solid foundation as they began their own professional journeys.

John also understands the importance of volunteering and giving back to one’s community and has been active in many local initiatives, clubs, and nonprofits. Over the past decade, he was or is a member of the West Mifflin Community Foundation, the West Mifflin Lions, and the West Mifflin Borough Recreation Board. In addition, he sponsors two student clubs at West Mifflin Area High School: the Titan Leaders in the Community and the Key Club. Both of these groups are service-oriented student-led organizations that routinely contribute to community service projects. John is passionate about donating his time to charitable causes and helping others get involved. He hopes to teach his students inside and outside of the classroom about the crucial qualities of hard work, altruism, empathy, and citizenship.

The best part of the 38th district is its people. Driven by a passion for helping others, John is running to be our next state representative so that our district, our county, and our commonwealth have opportunities worthy of the great people who call them home.
