Pa. man wearing towel, carrying beer in store exposes himself to child as he leaves
A 51-year-old Roseto man who was wearing a towel instead of pants and carrying an open beer in the Target in Lower Nazareth Township, removed the towel after leaving the store, exposing himself to a 9-year-old girl, her father and employees, Colonial Regional police report.
Joseph J. Ponnett III, of the 500 block of Liberty Avenue, was carrying a handful of clothing as well as a can of Fosters just after 1 p.m. Aug. 27 when Target security stopped him in the store due to the open container of alcohol, police said. A swaying Ponnett told security that he had no money and intended to take the clothes, police said. Ponnett gave back the clothes and left the store, putting the beer down on one of the cement balls out front, police said.
As he walked by the child and her father, Ponnett pulled off the towel and was only wearing a light colored T-shirt, police said. He was within eight feet of the child, police said. An 18-year-old female Target employee and the security official also saw Ponnett as he tied the towel around his neck, picked up the beer, mumbled something and walked toward his car, police said.
There are photos and video of the incident, police said. Using that and the car registration, Ponnett was identified, police said. Ponnett was arraigned Thursday before District Judge John Capobianco on charges of indecent exposure, open lewdness and public drunkenness, and housed in Northampton County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail
