Former Pa. police officer had nearly 1,700 child-porn images
A former Hilltown, Pa, police officer charged in May with possessing child pornography is now charged with nearly 1,700 offenses after Montgomery County investigators discovered he had additional images and videos, officials said. The Montgomery County District Attorneys Office said in a news release Friday that additional searches into Matthew Reiss electronics found nearly 1,700 videos and images of child .
Reiss, 47, of Upper Hanover Township, is charged with 1,695 counts of possessing child pornography, which is a felony offense. Reiss was arraigned on the charges Thursday afternoon. The new charges were filed after Montgomery County Detectives searched his electronics, which included an external hard drive. County detectives found 1,437 image files and 258 video files of child pornography, according to court documents.
At the time of his initial arrest, Hilltown police Chief Christopher Englehart said Reiss, an 18-year member of the department, was placed on unpaid administrative suspension, pending an internal investigation. The chief said Friday that Reiss resigned, effective May 31.
