Pa. man was taking underwater pictures before drowning
Ganga Guatam of Dauphin County, Pa, died Saturday after he was found unconscious at Lake Marburg at Codorus State Park in York County, Coroner Pam Gay said.
Guatam had been on the lake with family on a rented pontoon boat, Gay said.
At one point the group decided to go swimming close to shore. Guatam was reportedly a good swimmer and had been using a camera under the water, according to Gay. As others were getting back into the boat, they realized Guatam had not resurfaced.
They searched for him with help from two people they flagged down, eventually finding him unresponsive and pulling him from the lake, Gay said. Gay said people tried to resuscitate him from the time EMS was called through when he arrived at UPMC Hanover Hospital. Guatam was pronounced dead at 7:13 p.m.
