Exide lead cleanup plan in Berks County on hold

The former Exide Technologies facility and several other lead-polluted properties in Berks County owned by the bankrupt battery manufacturer have been transferred to an environmental trust.

The trust is supposed to ensure their cleanup post-bankruptcy, but it is underfunded. A public hearing on cleanup plans, including a complete re-evaluation sought by Berks County, has been postponed and no date has been set.

The transfers from Exide Technologies LLC to Exide Environmental Response Trust were recorded Nov. 17 and 18.
