Nearly 40% in Pa. can't say coronavirus is a genuine threat, poll finds

Nearly 40 percent of Pennsylvanians are unable to say the coronavirus is a real threat, according to a poll released today.

The Baldwin Wallace University Great Lakes Poll surveyed voters in Pennsylvania and three other states: Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin. The bulk of the survey focused on gauging perspectives on the coronavirus as the pandemic spreads across the country.

Many are concerned about the coronavirus and its threat to public health and their pocketbook, the poll found. Yet there is some skepticism as well.

The poll finds Pennsylvania residents giving Gov. Tom Wolf high marks for his leadership. The survey also found President Donald Trump getting a bump in support and a slight edge over Joe Biden in Pennsylvania.

The poll reveals a host of interesting and at times seemingly contradictory perspectives, which may simply reflect the public sentiment in such a turbulent time. Voters generally support measures to close schools and businesses, even as they fear the impact on the economy.

“I think some of the contradictions were most surprising to me," said Dr. Robert Alexander, a professor at Ohio Northern University who worked on the survey.

“On one hand they were willing to support measures and restrictions that governors have imposed but there are a lot of folks that don’t see it as a threat," he said.

Hoping this posts OK. As regards to Trump's support, it's early...there's a lot of time between now and November.
