City Council candidate Deian Salazar suspends campaign, backs Terrance Hayes

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – It is a crowded race for Portland City Council with 98 candidates running for 12 seats in four newly-formed districts this November.

As of now, 16 of those candidates are running in District 1, which represents outer-East Portland east of 82nd Avenue and I-205 to Gresham.

One of these candidates was Deian Salazar, a David Douglas high school alumnus who has served on the Oregon Autism Commission and Gov. Tina Kotek’s Child Foster Care Advisory Council among other roles.

While joining KOIN 6 News’ Eye on Northwest Politics, Salazar announced that he has suspended his campaign in support of Terrance Hayes as he shifts to work as Candidate Hayes’ policy advisor and deputy field manager.
