by KATU Staff Wednesday, April 6th 2022

GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. — Crews are searching for a snowboarder who did not return home from Mount Hood Meadows. ... Hood River County deputies say 30-year-old Ryan Mather, of Aloha, did not return home on Tuesday after snowboarding at Mt. Hood Meadows. ... Mather’s car was found at the ski resort's parking lot, deputies said. Crews searched for Mather overnight but were not successful.

On Wednesday search and rescue crews will focus on areas around the Shooting Star Express chair lift, which was Mather’s last reported location and includes access to some backcountry areas.

Personnel from the Hood River Crag Rats, Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue, Mt. Hood Meadows, Portland Mountain Rescue, Corvallis Mountain Rescue, Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon Air National Guard are assisting with search operations.

Mount Hood Meadows will not open Heather Canyon or Private Reserve on Wednesday due to the search. ... "We apologize but know you’ll understand that we need to focus entirely on this search effort and support our team. Thank you for your patience," officials wrote.
