How yall doing here in Oregon?

Anyone caught the covid?
Anyone gotten tested?

Here in PDX.. at least 14 people in the larger acquaintance circle are dead, and likely more that haven't been announced as yet. A number in my closer circles have had symptoms, a smaller hand full have been tested. But it appears that in at least some of our health systems testing may have caught up. I know one person, with minimal symptoms (overlaping with allergy symptoms) but an "essential" job who got tested (negative) same day as calling to request a test to be able to go back to work.

Everyone says unemployment is a nightmare. I finally did my initial application, that seemed to go far more smoothly than expected. But im sure there will be additional parts that dont go so smoothly.

What are you all seeing out there on the ground here in Oregon?

We’ve had one fatality in a population of 380,000.

We’re pretty good at hanging inside this time of year.

there are 3 cases at the Shutter Creek Correctional Facility with no other details. There have been no deaths reported; life seems fairly normal here; see a lot of masks and people are making a point to avoid close contact. The natives are getting restless however. There was a "rally" a couple of days ago with an elderly couple on tractors with American flags flying and misspelled signs raving about their freedoms being taken away; but other than that things seem quiet.

The first thing they closed, as far as I can tell, was the library. That certainly mattered to me and to the many homeless people who spend part or all of their days there.

Unemployment took awhile, but my last claim was approved. No deposit yet, but it looks like I get a separate check for CARES relief in addition to regular unemployment.

Fortunately, I was offered a work from home position starting next week. I was surprised they still wanted a drug-test as part of pre-employment screening - so masked and gloved up to take care of that this morning.

We are holding at 48 cases and no one has died in our area. We are pretty far from Portland area. This town being pretty conservative a lot of complaining about staying home, more people are driving around than should be but most are staying home.

My neighbor had pneumonia and got tested, him and his wife are teachers. His one test was negative but I wonder if it was a error, his wife and kids also got sick. They got over it in a few weeks, they are in their 40’s and healthy family into sports.

I still swear I had it in December was sick with every symptom for almost 5 weeks after being in CA. Fever, coughing, zero energy, etc. would love to have antibody test.

Seeing a lot of "Not that this is my opinion, but i think its important to ask questions" posts with linked op-eds about ending distancing(or as they call it, "Panic&quot and just letting the virus do its thing and relying on the assumption of eventual herd immunity.

Im noting a drastic increase in people out and about since about Thursday here in PDX. My guess is that people are seeing news about states that have "opened" and feel they can relax and stop following the directions. My secondary guess is that we are gonna mess up our success in flattening the curve,

And looking for excuse for it to be ok to go out again.

Also if you read that vaccine will take over a year it feels endless staying home that long. I keep wondering how it is all going to end up.

The answer seems to be in better testing but since the government has failed on that it is fractured and scattered across America with no real organization. There should have been a immediate new agency with nothing to do but set up testing across America and having communication with all other testing sites.

If everyone would wear masks you could start in some places going out but so many refuse to wear them.

I think this is going to last long time because of that.

I fully agree that the lack of coordination and the states and individuals not observing distancing will make this longer and worse than it had to be.

I also think we will have a vaccine on the market far sooner than anyone is predicting

Cause Trump. Hes desperate for a miracle cure that he thinks will make him look good. Chloroquine appears to have failed. I dont think that the desperate rat that recommended disinfectant injections and light enemas is going to hesitate for an instant to force through early approval of unproven vaccinations. I predict that as an October surprise. Just early enough to be able to capture the news for a few weeks, but just late enough that theres little chance that any safety issues or malfunctions will come out before the election.

I've only had one friend test positive, but she's a stud and was cleared for return to work last week. My apt building has started supplying masks for residents, and has hired a 2nd janitor. Downtown still feels like the opening scene from 28 Days, which is creepy and cool simultaneously.

Biggest impacts on my life? Trying to love e-books, it's not easy. Groceries are getting expensive and under-stocked. Enjoying the quiet...you don't know how damn noisy a city is until the noise stops. Trying to be semi-productive, started online courses in Spanish, Chess, Guitar, and Ancient History. Also. drinking, smoking, and eating too much.

This is my virgin post (haven't been on any board or forum in 5 years) So howdy!
