Driver's ed students say they were molested by instructor, Portland Community College sued for $6M

A lawyer for three teenage girls who say they were sexually abused by their driver’s education instructor has filed $6 million in lawsuits against the instructor and his former employer, Portland Community College.

The three lawsuits, filed Thursday in Multnomah County Circuit Court, seek $2 million each. The suits allege that Paul Douglas Burdick molested the teens while instructing them in a car through sessions offered by PCC’s Willow Creek Center in Hillsboro. The teens were 15, 16 and 17 years old at the time in 2018. Burdick was 46 or 47.

Burdick has been charged with third-degree sexual abuse involving 15 girls or women for allegedly touching intimate parts of their bodies, including their thighs and breasts, from 2013 to 2018, according to an indictment filed in Washington County Circuit Court.

Burdick’s trial is scheduled for January.

Burdick has pleaded not guilty. His criminal defense attorney, Jason Short, didn’t return a request for comment Friday.
