Related: About this forumOregon: Reps Earl Blumenauer, Susan Bonamici, and Sen Ron Wyden voted FOR TPA
What are we to do about this? ... The general liberal consensus regarding TPP is very much AGAINST this pitiful corporate power grab, and there is no doubt that each voted in favor of TPA against the wishes of their own constituents ...
There should be a political price to pay for this treachery ... What will that price be?
We need a source of social democrats to run against these ... These .... Democrats ...
Where are the challengers?

(19,537 posts)I think he'd be the best option to primary Wyden. We should all be calling his office to ask him to run. And hopefully also look for a good person in his district to run for the House should he do this too. Definitely want to keep the crazy Republican Robinson family out of the House in that district.
As for Bluemenauer and Bonamici, not sure who's best equipped to run against them at this point. Hopefully this can be a topic we can bring up in many of our Bernie gatherings in the coming months to see if there are any good candidates to run against them that would have a shot and be an improvement.

(4,458 posts)certainly GOP Rep Greg Walden. Out of Oregon's 7 there are Only Dem rep DeFazio and Sen Merkley voting For Oregon.
I would Love to see DeFazio challenge Wyden, personally.
To the best of my knowledge, there seems to be little interest in Challenging these asses. Why? I don't know-perhaps the Dem Party of Oregon is Discouraging anyone?????

(22,000 posts)I really want to see his ass get kicked out of that seat. I'm overseas and my mail forwarding address is in Tillamook, so I'm in his district. In the last election I didn't vote for anyone in the primary or GE for my CD.
If you hear of anyone running let me know because I'd be willing to donate to their campaign.

(4,458 posts)this sorry asses dist...only a couple miles from DeFazio (D-4), actually. I Begged "them" to Inch me (D-5) just a Few miles the other direction...to No avail.
No informed person I know likes him. I know a few folks around that could give him a decent challenge But they "ain't walking into the devils den" we call congress.
Dems by majority Elect him and he then represents the GOP Corp-America, nearly always voting/assisting the merger of Corporate and State.
He also mysteriously, gained a Lot in personal wealth, it would seem......
The Only reason he won in 2014 was Tootie Smith. I did call to remind him that "we" didn't vote For him-we voted Against Tootie. Please, understand the difference.
I Miss Darlene Hooley.

(22,000 posts)Pretty much from Manzanita down to Yachats on the coast is his district. If I was 100 miles east I'd be right in the 1st CD. I can't believe that Tillamook and Milwaukie are in the same CD (the former being my mail forwarding address and the latter being a place I lived for many years before coming to Korea). It even goes into Happy Valley. The way they do the redistricting really sucks.
If the Republicans find a decent enough candidate they might be able to beat him given the apathy. I think he could be a target.

(4,458 posts)miles too deep in D-5 for me...I wasn't asking for much - lol
I mean since "they" get to gerrymander...why not give "us" a few crumbs too?
I agree...If we could find a Mod Honest GOP...I believe he could be ousted. And D-5 even with a Repub....would also be better off. At least we'd know wtf we're dealing with.
I, of course would prefer a Progressive...but at this juncture I would also be pleased with No representation-We would be better off representing ourselves than having Schrader do "it" to us, imo.
How about you? Wanna run?
davidpdx
(22,000 posts)so that would eliminate me as a candidate. There has to be someone that can run against him in the primary.
fredamae
(4,458 posts)but as I said earlier...they refuse to enter the "devil'$ den" or that place we call congress.
I can't say as I blame them. Congress has become somewhat of a Frat House where spoiled, willfully ignorant Jr High Students embarked on a Field Trip and refused to leave.

(46,179 posts)that we could boot Walden out, but I don't know how that would happen.
Shit, sometimes it seems like we're lucky if anyone even goes so far to put their name on the ballot against him.

(4,458 posts)Walden has brought to Oregon, let alone their own District. I have friends over there....they Loath his politics, but the people in "Red Oregon" are stubborn, afraid of change and highly suspicious.
Unless and until Eastern Oregon voters become fully informed on both sides of the issue...things aren't likely to change anytime soon.
I thought Aelea Christofferson faired pretty well in 2014, considering...a rather conservative Dem, imo that would have likely represented D-2 well. But...he has quite the grip on "his people".
I think more and more people "over there" Are clearly ready for change.
Educate.....cuz if "they" only knew..they'd likely toss Walden out on his arse.
LWolf
(46,179 posts)Few listen.
I'm thinking that many may be open to Sanders, which could open Walden's door a bit, too.
So far, I've heard from people who support Sanders, and people who support Trump.
fredamae
(4,458 posts)I agree and have been hearing more often...From GOP "If we can't get Trump-I'm going for Bernie".
Do you get that sense from the mood of voters in E-OR?
Don't give up trying...there is a silver lining here: "few listen". For every One person who listens and Thinks? They will also get people to listen and think. You may not realize the positive impact you're having
Don't give up.
