State schools Superintendent Ryan Walters said he plans to open an office within the Oklahoma State Department of Education dedicated to religious freedom, his third move in five days tied to Republican Donald Trump's plans for the presidency.
Walters said the Office of Religious Liberty and Patriotism would promote its namesake principles and make sure students and teachers can freely practice their religion.
"For decades, our nation's public schools have tragically been ground zero for the erosion of religious liberty across our country," Walters said in a news release he shared on social media Tuesday.
He tagged Trump in his message, saying the president-elect had "rebuked the left on Election Day." Walters' moves follow Trump's pledge to close the U.S. Department of Education and end "federal overreach" into schools.

(41,841 posts)I see it every Sunday where streets are clogged with parked cars near Churchs. Erosion. I see it at church picnics and fundraisers. Erosion. Incredible Christmas displays going up as I hunt and peck. Erosion. In 2022 the Catholic Church in Kansas spent four million tax exempt dollars in an attempt to outlaw abortion (they failed.). Erosion.
A state office of patriotism? Its purpose is what? Wouldn’t real patriotism come organically on a daily basis based on our leaders action?
Let me guess. Walter’s is a conservative Republican.

And he’s tied up in different lawsuits and suing the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
I hope he loses, sorry I ever crossed paths with this creep. He belongs in jail for his attempted assaults on the First Amendment.
