June 12 (Reuters) - Oklahoma's highest court on Wednesday dismissed a lawsuit by the last two known living survivors of the Tulsa race massacre in 1921 seeking reparations for the violence and destruction that resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Black people.
The Oklahoma Supreme Court upheld [pdf] a judge's decision last year to dismiss the case, saying the state's public nuisance law could not be relied upon to address the lingering consequences of "unjust, violent, and tragic moments of our history."
It is estimated that as many as 300 people, most of them Black, died on May 31, 1921, when a large white mob overwhelmed Tulsa's Greenwood neighborhood, a wealthy community nicknamed "Black Wall Street."
Lawyers for Lessie Benningfield Randle, 109, and Viola Fletcher, 110, argued the city of Tulsa and others through the massacre created a public nuisance of racial disparities, economic inequalities and trauma that needed to be abated.

(16,501 posts)... taking that unanswered question to the grave with them.
The courts will be ignoring their sufferings and offering no closure for them. Is there a statute of limitations on horrendous racial injustices,.. there should not be. ?
"Freedom and justice for all" once again reduced to perception management for those unable to afford or able to buy justice.
Making a mockery of that concept is the best we can offer them because real justice for all is simply too much to ask for or give away.
Such a disgrace. We can and should do so much better than this. Those sweet women are owed something for the pain and the sufferings inflicted upon them by a wild and vicious racist mob of white supremacists, through no fault of their own.
Just living a good life,... minding their own business,... and being good Americans. The same can not be said about the vicious racist mob who attacked them and their community.

Ain't gunna happen.
Sorry, you must suffer this inhumanity and indignity alone and take it to your grave with you. We can't be bothered to try and sort this mess out.

(16,501 posts)He say America is beyond all that.
Racism by his estimation is just a tiny little speck of a dot in our rear view mirrors. Barely any longer even perceptible to any Americans at all.
What a breath of fresh air - ain't it ?
