I've heard of a lot of them opening, but I've never heard of one closing.

JAY — The Jay Walmart store is closing its doors to the public on Aug. 21, displacing 67 employees.

“This is a very difficult decision,” Walmart spokeswoman Anne Hatfield said.

The store opened in 1980, she said. The last day for its workers is Sept. 25.

The Jay Walmart store’s closing was due to several factors, including some financial factors, she said.

“The store’s closing was not Covid-19 related,” Hatfield said.

Employees can apply for open positions at other Walmart stores or Sam’s Club locations. Hatfield said Walmart is working with every store associate to help during the transition.

1. Did they recently lose a court battle with a labor union?

That's one of the reasons they sometimes close their stores, rather than actually have to deal with a union.

2. It's a standard MO of theirs

Not the case necessarily with this location, but that they go in and open store after store, driving out Mom & Pop businesses, only to end up closing down and leaving the towns that they already damaged even more broken. This, of course, after getting tons of government and tax subsidies from the towns and counties where they opened.

is a small and pretty poor community. I'm sure the dollar stores will fill the void.
