Gee what could go wrong?
snip-"Now, 238 years later, there’s a nationwide effort – including in the Ohio legislature – to hold a second constitutional convention, with the goal of passing amendments that rein in the power of the federal government."
So far, 19 state legislatures have passed resolutions calling for such a convention, and similar legislation has been introduced in 15 additional states, including Ohio. If all 15 of those states pass the resolution, it would meet the constitutional threshold needed to convene a convention."

(4,491 posts)The GOP would love to have a Constitutional Convention - can you imagine what BS they would try to enshrine in law. Given the GOP lack of a spine, we would have Trump empowered like the North Korean or Russian leader.
The only blessing we have with Trump - is that not only is he mentally defective but a physical health disaster. I wait everyday for him either to go full mental (hard to tell tho’ to be honest) crazy during some interview OR to stoke out and die. Either would make my day.

(2,583 posts)A constitution with no Bill of Rights.
A return to the Lochner Era, to separate but equal, and to no birthright citizenship.
An end to Federal supremacy, to the interpretive authority of the courts, and to separation of church and state.

(5,444 posts)had or would rescind them, and the threatened convention would not occur. States now considered as blue sates, that is. Am I misremembering?

(54 posts)Pushed by ALEC, this act could wipe away the entire constitution altogether, unaccountable to no one (even the states and the courts).
Convention Could Set Its Own Agenda, Possibly Influenced by Powerful Interest Groups
The only national constitutional convention ever held — the 1787 assembly in Philadelphia that produced the current Constitution — disregarded its original charge, which was to amend the Articles of Confederation to promote trade among the states. Instead it wrote an entirely new governing document, effectively abolishing the Articles of Confederation and superseding them with a new design of government. A convention held today could set its own agenda, too.
Further, the opportunity to bypass Congress and write major policy changes into the Constitution — where they would be extremely difficult to remove — would likely tempt powerful, well-funded interest groups to influence the process and press for changes beyond those initially envisioned. After all, there are no federal or state limits on spending to influence delegates to a constitutional convention.
