Portage Co. Sheriff 'disciplining employees' after 19 News report on inmates working campaign event

PORTAGE COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - Portage County Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski released a letter Wednesday in response to a 19 News report about inmates working at an event for his 2024 reelection campaign.

Zuchowski released the letter Wednesday afternoon, saying he immediately began investigating the situation after seeing our story.

Reporter Caitlin McCarthy uncovered a former inmate’s claim that he and other inmates helped set up a campaign fundraiser for the sheriff.

19 News requested multiple interviews with Zuchowski prior to publication. McCarthy ultimately spoke with Portage County Jail Assistant Administrator Sgt. Sonny Jones for the report.
