Oberlin City Schools takes $22M bond issue off November 2024 ballot

OBERLIN, Ohio (WJW) — Oberlin City Schools has decided to withdraw its 4.21-mill, 37-year bond issue from the Nov. 5 ballot. It was expected to generate $22 million to build a new middle school.

Board of education members voted Tuesday to remove the issue from the general election ballot, according to a Wednesday news release from the district.

“We are happy to not have to ask voters for money outside of what their new property taxes will be starting in 2025,” district Treasurer Robert Rinehart said Tuesday, according to the release.

Had voters approved the measure, a school district taxpayer who owns a property valued at $100,000 would have paid an extra about $147 per year, or about $5,400 over the life of the bond.
