3. Question

From what I can tell, Justice Sharon Kennedy is not up for re-election for her current seat but she's running to be the chief justice of the Ohio Supreme Court, and the same for her Democratic opponent, Justice Jennifer Brunner.

For the individual that doesn't win, I imagine they just retain their current seat on the seat until they are up for re-election, correct?

What I'm really trying to understand is that for the Democratic party, it's not a risk. There are 3 Democratic justices on the court and no matter what happens with the Chief Justice election, Democrats still holds 3 seats on the Court?

4. The current Chief Justice is a GOP endorsee.

The Dems actually are in the minority right now. O'Connor was endorsed by the GOP, but she's not a lunatic and sides with the Constitution(s) and with the Democratic endorsees much of the time. It's more important to make sure the balance tips to the Democratic endorsees, but it would be better if Brunner were CJ than a GOP-endorsed CJ. If it's a majority GOP court with a GOP-endorsed CJ, we're kinda' screwed.

5. Insteresting that O'Connor is the moderate and she's retiring

I read about Kennedy over the last couple of days and she just gives me full "Clarence Thomas" vibes. I read some of Kennedy's comments about how she views and methods of interpretation. Kennedy seems nuts.

If Jennifer Brunner does not win the Chief Justice seat, she still retains her current seat, correct? If she loses, the Democratic justices still hold 3 seats?

Also, let's say Brunner wins the CJ spot, how does her current seat gets filled? I found no material about how that works.
