Legislative leaders on MIA state budget: 'We're working on it'

With Ohio in its second week without passage of a state operating budget, the refrain remains the same: “We’re working on it.”

House Speaker Larry Householder, R-Glenford, and Senate President Larry Obhof, R-Medina, huddled Monday as each chamber’s finance chairman and staff gathered for another meeting.

Amid the lack of agreement ahead of the June 30 deadline, the interim budget passed by lawmakers only runs through July 17 and no one is brokering any talk about extending the extension.

A deal surrounding spending and policy in the near-$69 billion two-year budget, requiring approval of House-Senate conference committee prior to floor votes, will “definitely” be done by next week, Obhof said.
