'N-word,' angry texts preceded fatal shooting in Colerain Township

For months, Earl Jones had been angry that his former girlfriend, the mother of his child, was dating a black man, according to testimony.

The day Jones fatally shot 19-year-old Kevin Neri, the two were supposed to meet on the Colerain Township street where Neri lived with Cyerra Prather and her family.

According to Prather, Neri was expecting a fist fight the evening of May 16, 2016. Jones, who is white, shot him at least twice with a revolver.

In the days and weeks before, Jones and Neri exchanged heated electronic messages.
