With shadow of Springer, Cordray looming, Dem governor hopefuls take to the debate stage
Two possible candidates weren't there, but that didn't stop the Ohio Democratic Party from holding its first gubernatorial debate for the 2018 election.
Nearly nine months away from the primary, former state Rep. Connie Pillich, former U.S. Rep. Betty Sutton, Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley and former state Sen. Minority Leader Joe Schiavoni took to the stage at Martins Ferry High School on Tuesday night in the first of six planned debates.
But noticeably absent were the two major candidates still pondering a run: TV personality Jerry Springer and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Richard Cordray.
Springer's and Cordray's indecision about jumping into the race has left them in the front of everyone's mind. Springer said he was seriously considering a run while Cordray - bound by law - has been mum.
