Monroe gas station clerk accused of embezzling $40K worth of ciagrettes
MONROE Monroe police believe a gas-station clerk may have stolen cigarettes from her workplace.
During a compliance check Thursday for a man living at a residence in the 600 block of West Third Street, detectives located more than 500 cartons of cigarettes valued at about $40,000. Most of these cartons were still in boxes previously delivered to a local gas station, according to a police statement.
A daughter of one of the homes residents works at that gas station. Her name and address were not released, but a search warrant executed at her residence recovered more cigarettes along with a small amount of cocaine and items used to package narcotics for sale, police said.
The owner of the business, also not identified in the report, has been contacted and is cooperating with the on-going investigation, according to the statement.
