10-year-old boy leads police on high-speed chase near Fostoria

FOSTORIA — A 10-year-old boy led police on a five-minute car chase over the weekend after taking the vehicle without permission to go shopping, authorities said.

The boy was charged with delinquency in connection with failure to obey a police officer’s order and was taken to the Seneca County juvenile detention center Sunday, Police Chief Keith Loreno said. Police did not release the boy’s name.

“It’s not typical for that age group,” Chief Loreno said. “We are just glad nobody was injured.”

Chief Loreno said the boy took the car from his home near Kansas, Ohio, then drove about 11 miles into Fostoria shortly after 7 a.m. The boy then stopped by a Circle K store on the city’s south side, bought an item, and then drove to another Circle K store on the city’s north side, where a police officer spotted him driving erratically away from the store.
