Judge orders strip club to pay $8 million to family of victim in wrong-way I-480 crash
CLEVELAND, Ohio A judge Wednesday ordered a Cleveland strip club to pay $8 million to the family of a woman killed in a wrong-way car crash in April 2014.
The accident happened minutes after employees at Secrets Gentlemen's Club on Brookpark Road forced a drunken Julio Vargas to leave the bar. Vargas proceeded to drive the wrong way on Interstate 480 and hit a car in which Desiree Snyder was a passenger.
Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Deena Calabrese ruled that Secrets Gentlemen's Club was negligent in the death of Snyder, 22, of Parma, by failing to take the necessary precautions that would have prevented Vargas from driving.
Vargas had a blood-alcohol content of at least 0.265 at the time of crash, or more than three times the legal limit in Ohio, records show. W. Craig Bashein, an attorney for Snyder's family, said Vargas had 25 drinks in the hours leading up to the crash.
