$5 million IRS scam puts former Canton pastor in prison--calls it "Obama Stimulus" program

A former Canton clergyman will serve more than 13 years in prison for his part in a $4.8 million income-tax scheme that victimized a number of Canton residents.

The Rev. Allen D. Miles 58, of Little Rock, Ark., learned his punishment Monday in U.S. District Court in Cleveland for a scam in which unsuspecting people's information was used to apply for bogus tax refunds under the guise of an "Obama Stimulus" Program."

Miles (who formerly spelled his name "Myles&quot had pleaded guilty in April to several charges that included conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. According to federal prosecutors, the scheme involved 2,750 people in Ohio and other states, resulting in the Internal Revenue Service issuing millions in bogus refunds.

Miles personally netted more than $240,000 since the scheme was launched in 2010, investigators said.
