Try being a single 50-year-old white guy in a small Texas town like me. Everyone automatically assumes that I'm a Republican and that using the "n-word" is just dandy as long as long as there are no blacks around. I was very uncomfortable to hear that word while talking to a retired professor in my apartment complex who I thought was somewhat liberal.

Don't even get me started about the political leaders from my state.

Back when you had to have a hotel key to buy a drink, because Prohibition just hadn't been given enough time to work! Of course, you could buy beer at the gas station.
Got asked one time "Are you white or a Mexican?" by an eight-year old...told her "I'm Irish" and confused her.

Politics starts at home and I think that by posting the politics and local interest stories it shows that we share more in common than what we disagree about.
