Congresswoman promotes women's issues

Women in leadership positions throughout Ohio gathered with Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-Jefferson Township, today to discuss how they can support gender equality at all levels of the workforce.
I didnt realize the fight for minimum wage is a fight for women, said Gail Marsh, senior associate vice president at the Ohio State University Wexner Mecidal Center. Im still not positive all of us are taking care of women at all levels.
Beatty is a proponent of raising the minimum wage to $10.10 as proposed by President Barack Obama in his State of the Union Speech this year. She also has championed passing an equal pay law. Women make between 77 and 82 cents for every $1 earned by men of equal qualifications, according to federal statistics.
Beatty asked the group women from Ohio State University, OhioHealth Foundation and Nationwide and other Ohio-based organizations to consider assisting The Fire and Focus, a program Beatty started about 15 years ago in Ohio to bring together women from a variety of backgrounds to discuss and help them succeed....
